Working as a small team with the DoP, I love assisting in light setting, arranging the space, choosing camera position, as well as the right intonation and talking speed for the interviewee. My favorite part is helping our protagonists to feel more comfortable in front of the camera, find the flow and say it right. Tension and rehearsed, automatic speech always show in the final cut. There is the energy of speaking, and it’s different from how the written text works. Everyone needs something different to feel at ease, but I know many ways.
